The Baptism of Our Lord
On
the Sunday of the Baptism of Our Lord, we wonder, along with John the baptizer,
why Jesus would come to him for baptism. John learns to see with new
eyes. As Jesus comes up out of the waters of baptism, the heavens are opened to
him. He sees the Holy Spirit descending like a dove, alighting on him, and
hears the voice of God. In Jesus, the barriers between God and humanity have been
torn open, broken down. God is around every corner.
