On Being 63
When did
life go
from a
monolith to a kaleidoscope,
with facets
innumerable
colliding
into one another
seemingly
at random?
Just when
we become accustomed to one,
another
displaces it
and we are
undone.
Some facets
are dark and foreboding,
where light
cannot penetrate.
They shroud
us in gloom.
We long for
the tomb.
Other
facets are opaque,
a dull
grey,
and we see
as through a mirror,
dimly.
But we know
the light is there,
somewhere.
Yet other
facets are iridescent,
refreshing
our lives in radiant hues,
illuminating
our longing and languishing souls.
Sometimes a
glimpse is enough.
We live
between the Alpha and the Omega.
So whatever
happens between
those two
indeterminate and infinite poles,
whatever
the color of our lives,
we are swept
up into the Divine.
