Scripture
He himself
bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live
for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:24)
Reflection
I continue to
be awed by the amazing transformation that took place in the life of Peter, who
went from three times denying knowing or associating with Jesus to becoming a
bold proclaimer of Christ crucified, to the point of himself suffering death
for his convictions (according to tradition, but not recorded in Scripture, Peter
was crucified upside down). Peter writes about Jesus, “He himself bore our sins
in his body on the cross . . .” Some of that sin was Peter’s denial! Peter goes
on, “. . . so that, free from sins, we might live in righteousness . . .” Peter
knew what he was talking about. If it was true for Peter, it’s also true for
us! As Peter said, “. . . by his wounds you have been healed.” That’s us!
Prayer
Gracious God,
As you transformed the life of Peter, so transform me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
