Scripture
“’In the last days it will be, God
declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh . . .’” (Acts 2:17a)
Reflection
The Apostle Peter, filled with the
Holy Spirit that was poured out on Pentecost, is quoting the Old Testament
prophet Joel. The Spirit will indeed be upon all flesh: “. . . and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even
upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit;
and they shall prophesy.” It seems God’s Spirit knows no partiality or
boundaries!
“. . . I will pour out my Spirit
upon all flesh . . .” It seems
Pentecost is an extension of the Incarnation—God becoming flesh. If the
Incarnation is God in flesh in particular—in
Jesus—Pentecost is God in flesh in all of
us.
Prayer
Gracious God, Pour your Holy Spirit
into us, again and again! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
