God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good. (Genesis 1:31)

Reflection

“. . . it was very good.” God’s declaration on all of Creation, with humanity created in the image of God being the crown of Creation, is that creation is very good. Up until this last “day” of Creation, everything God had created, God had declared to be good. With the creation of humanity, Creation is very good.

Without disregarding the devastating effects of sin in our world and within ourselves, it is critical to remember that we have been created in the image of God and that God declared us to be very good! This is good news for so many who are debased by the world, and it’s a good reminder for those who would belittle others—others who are created in the image of God and whom God declares to be very good!

Prayer

Gracious God, Thank you for creating us in your image. Remind us daily of your image within us and your declaration of our goodness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
